tree of heaven

Mature Tree of Heaven, Mason County, MI, October, 2013
Ailanthus is a fast-growing tree and can reach heights of 50 feet, although mature specimens are a little unusual. It was planted as an ornamental and street-scaping tree in the 1800s, but quickly became unpopular due to prolific suckering and its bad odor. Alien, from China, and now considered a weed tree.
