Carolina spring beauty

This small pink spring flower, about 3 inches high, carpets the forest floor, early, before leaves create shade. In warm sun they give off a sweet odor. Formerly in Portulacaceae. Base petal color is white with magenta stripes creating the overall pink color. Carolina spring beauty has leaves which are broad in the middle and tapered at both ends.
