sessile trillium, toadshade
Toadshade or sessile trillium, Morgan Co, OH, April, 2017
Distinguish this from prairie trillium by the shape of the leaves. These ones remain fairly broad all the way to the point of attachement, while prairie trilium leaves are elongated into a petiole. In toadshade, the sepals often remain upright, but in prairie trillium they are strongly recurved downward.
