Buds of lesser pyrola, Ulster County, NY, May 2012
Pyrola have now been placed in the heath family, they were in the former Pyrolaceae. All have similar flowers. This is the smallest pyrola, about six inches tall. Note the purpleish color on the back of the leaves.
