Family Polyporaceae
violet-toothed polypore

Violet-toothed Polypore, Lake County, MI, October 15, 2011
This is a polypore fungus, but it also grows teeth on the undersurface, making it look like a toothed fungus. It changes appearance quite a bit as it ages, starting as a bright lavender, becoming darker, then fading to white. Taxonomy unsettled, may also be listed as Trichaptum biforme, or Polyporus biformis, or Polyporus pergamenus, or Trichaptum pargamenum, or Hirschioporus pergamenus
