Family Emydidae
Blanding's turtle

Blanding's Turtle, Mason County, MI, April, 2017
Blanding's turtle is considered endangered or of special concern in Michigan. The shell is high and round. It may be more or less spotted, but the turtle's chin is always yellow. They prefer secluded wetland areas, but will roam to nest. This one was crossing a road, and the photographer moved it to the shoulder.
